The land that we live on shapes us
From the languages we speak, to the foods we eat, to the governments we elect, it is the setting in which our stories play out — the prism through which we see the world around us.
Geography has been forgotten, ignored by our education system. We approach the world with an insular perspective, yet know little about even our own land, and the story it has told.
Yet our world is a beautiful place, a strange and fascinating place. From the other side of the planet to our own backyard, we set out to tell the stories of a world worth exploring.
The Crew
Carter started That Is Interesting in 2018 as a way to share his love of geography, history, and exploring the world outside his backyard. In the years since he has created 150+ videos for an audience of 250K subscribers. He believes that long-form storytelling, written and created by real people, is more important than ever. His favorite projects have been the ones he’s filmed on site — road tripping across the United States for the US Explained, or visiting Greenland, Iceland, Bermuda, and Costa Rica for the Nation Explained. He’s excited to keep exploring and sharing the world with you.
Quinn handles everything you see. The images, the animations, the cinematography — all of it placed deliberately, in service of telling the story. Every video brings its own creative problem to solve. One day he’s shooting the northern lights at −20°F, the next is an all-night editing session. Projectors, home-made lenses, 3D software, custom-printed maps: making a That Is Interesting video is its own kind of adventure, and working out how to make each one is most of the fun.
